The old town of Al-Ula is called “Al-Dur”
It consists of a distinguished group of old buildings built of clay and stones and displays the lifestyle and residential complexes of the sixth century AH. It is one of the most prominent places of tourism in Al Ula, which does not complete your trip to Al Ula, except by visiting it. It contains a distinguished center for tourism information.
The solar clock (Tantura): The solar clock is located south of the Islamic town and is a pyramid-shaped building used to know the entry of the four seasons, especially the entry of the winter season, by means of a stone planted in the ground in front of the pyramid structure. The shade of the solar clock reaches this stone on the first day of winter, on 21 December, which is the first day of winter. The shadow of the solar clock cannot reach this stone again only next year and on the same date. It is still in use today as many visitors and tourists enjoy watching this event which is repeated only once a year.
